About Filophile

Filophile was founded by James Cullingham and Al Bauernfreund in 2007.

Prior to that, James and Al had spent several years developing a document management intranet package called Singleview. Singleview was designed primarily for accountancy practices, and helped champion the wider use of IT in areas outside the core business function in that traditionally conservative market.

Singleview was eventually in use in well over one hundred firms in UK and Australia, where it was instrumental in revolutionising procedures, dramatically reducing use of paper, and helping to standardise correspondence formats, as well as ending forever the "who has the so-and-so file?" emails that used to plague offices everywhere.

James graduated with a degree in Mathematics from Cambridge University in 1990, going on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant three years later. He spent eight years with accountancy practices, auditing and working with a huge range of small and medium-sized enterprises, and gaining a deep understanding of the part that processes and information systems play in any business, however small.

Since then he has used that understanding, combined with a passion for computers that reaches back to the early 1980s, to create both off-the-shelf and bespoke software solutions that have helped many businesses become more productive and efficient.

James now lives in Derbyshire, where his garden and the surrounding countryside offer a happy counterpoint to the world of IT.
